Snap a Selfie, Stand Up to Big Tobacco in Evanston’s #NotAReplacement Instagram Contest
In honor of National Kick Butts Day, Evanston community members can take a stand against tobacco use by sharing their “selfie statement” in the Evanston Health & Human Services Department’s #NotAReplacement Instagram contest, in partnership with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
Each day, approximately 1,300 Americans die from tobacco use, while another 700 youth replace them by becoming regular smokers. From Wednesday, February 11 through Wednesday, March 11, Evanston community members are encouraged to tell the tobacco industry that they’re not “replacement smokers” by sharing a selfie statement declaring who they are and what they represent. (Example: “I am not a replacement. I am an athlete.”)
To participate in the contest:
- Personalize the “I am not a replacement” selfie statement, or create your own;
- Take a photo of yourself holding your selfie statement;
- Share it on Instagram using the hashtag #NotAReplacement and tag @CityofEvanston in your post.
Those who are not on Instagram can submit selfie statement photos online at cityofevanston.org/kickbutts.
The five most impactful and creative posts will be chosen as winners by the City’s Health & Human Services Department and recognized on the City’s website on National Kick Butts Day, Wednesday, March 18.
