On Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 4:30-7:30pm, volunteers from the Evanston Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition and the Evanston Police and Community Partnership will collaborate on an Illinois Liquor Control Commission effort called “Your Actions Matter” to help keep alcohol out of the hands for those under 21 years of age. While we know that a majority of our community’s liquor establishments are selling and serving responsibly, we are also aware that friends and family members are the primary sources where youth obtain alcohol. Youth and community members can play a key role by sending a reminder to adults to “think, decide, prevent” before purchasing alcohol for underage consumption. With this in mind, we are asking you to join our community partnership to help reduce youth access to alcohol.
If you are able to volunteer, please contact Karen Finstad, Coalition Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 847-951-0109. On the day of the event, volunteers will meet in the theater at the Music Institute of Chicago’s, Institute of Therapy through the Arts located at 1702 Sherman Ave (NW side of Church & Sherman) to gather Your Actions Matter materials, including bottle tags, buttons, window decals, posters and coasters, then divide into teams to post and distribute materials to liquor retailers, bars and restaurants who are participating in the community.
With your help, this event will be successful in Evanston and across Illinois!
